LADIES OF LITERATURE ZINE

Mar 4 '14

Ahh! If you recall, the proceeds earned from Ladies of Lit went directly to classroom literacy projects via DonorsChoose.org. I just got a bunch of letters from first and second grade students and wanted to share them with all of you. You guys made this happen! Thanks for supporting this project and for supporting childhood literacy!

ladiesofliterature:

Hey everyone!

At this point, all outstanding orders of the Ladies of Literature zine have been sent out. This includes international orders and zines for participating artists. Everyone should have gotten an email from Storenvy letting you know your zine is in the mail. If you feel like you might have been overlooked, please let us know.

I also want to let everyone know that we have 75 zines left in stock in the online store. Once that runs out, we won’t be making anymore and online orders of Vol. 1 will be closed for good. So if you were planning on ordering you might wanna get on that soon! BUY A COPY HERE.

Thanks again for all your support! We’ve already donated to several classroom literacy projects with the money we’ve raised!

Preview art credit (in order) to Paulina Ho (typography), Trung Le Nguyen, Yssa Badiola, Alex Bahena, Grace Fong, Lily Luo, and Brigid Vaughn.

Hey, I was wondering what printer you used and how it all worked? Do you print each page as a regular photo a bunch of time and put it all together yourself? I don't know much about the printing process and this whole project sounds wonderful. Anyway I super love the idea of the zine and everything, just curious about the printy side of things! Thanks :D

Hi! We don’t technically print the thing ourselves, so I’m not necessarily sure what specific printer it is—but it’s definitely laser printed. We buy multiple color prints (double-sided, full-bleed) of the interior pages and the cover separately. And then we put the two of them together and staple it ourselves. Pretty much you could probably make a few copies of your own zine with a printer at home. Since we’re dealing with roughly 5000+ pieces of paper at a time, the process itself isn’t particularly fancy so much as it is tedious (as my amazingly patient folding/stapling team can attest to!)

are you the right person to ask about this stuff ? well my Mum said she bought a copy of the LoL zine a month ago and it still hasn't turned up, me personally i am not that concerned because i know it has probably been busy and hard to get them out over Christmas but my Mum is scared she lost her money, P.S its England when we are. Thank you for you help ^^

jovaline:

Since the amount of orders exceeded the amount of zines we had readily available we had to order more materials to make more (we staple and fold these by hand individually, so as you can imagine it’s a lot of paper and a lot of packaging and so it takes a bit of time.) By now, over half the total orders have been sent out, but there’s still quite an amount of work to do. Fortunately the new supplies have come in and we’ve scheduled a day where we can get everything together to send out right after the holidays.

I realize that Storenvy is sending all the customers who have pre-ordered and ordered the zine emails to check up on this. I apologize sincerely for taking so long, but believe me, no one wants to send out all the orders more than I do! (Not kidding. I worry about this nightly haha!)
Thank you for your patience and hope you have a good year!

Update for anyone wondering about zine orders. So there’s no mystery about what’s going on—we’re working on it and we promise we’re going to send everything out!

Update on Zine Shipping

Hello everyone! We’ve shipped out approximately half of the total orders thus far. Hopefully they’ve been getting to you safe and sound!

If you still haven’t gotten yours yet it’s most likely because of one of these reasons:

  • It’s an international order. Working out the custom forms and address labeling takes a bit more time!
  • Your order is one of the first 20 orders that receives a free gift, and so we’re getting those together.
  • You ordered very recently (like within the last week or so.)

Please bear with us! We received quite a bit more orders than anticipated (which is wonderful!!) but I’m also in the middle of finals so I haven’t been able to find the time to sit down, package, and label everything. We will try to get all orders sent ASAP. Thank you for your patience and thank you again for all the love and support! It means so much!
